The team at
Simply Liposuction has met with countless men and women who have wanted to finetune their
physiques through liposuction. These patients know that the procedure
is a great way
to get rid of small problem areas and slim their figure. But it seems
like every patient wants to know, “Does liposuction hurt?”
This is a logical question to ask.
Here, we share the answer in detail and discuss what should be expected from the surgery and the recovery process.
ABOUT THE PROCEDURE
When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon who operates in an accredited surgical facility, liposuction does not hurt. The procedure has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment to get rid of unwanted fatty deposits in various body areas, including the trunk area, thighs, buttocks, arms and face.
Before the procedure begins, your plastic surgeon will place you under anesthesia to make the treatment pain-free. The type of anesthesia used will depend on the type of liposuction treatmentbeing performed. Patients placed under general anesthesia are not awake during surgery and do not feel any pain. Patients that receive local anesthesia are lightly sedated, feel no pain but may feel some slight pressure during the procedure. At Simply Liposuction, we use several advanced liposuction techniques, most of which only require local anesthesia.
ABOUT THE RECOVERY
It is reasonable to expect some slight discomfort during your initial recovery. You may feel soreness (but no pain) during the first few days after your procedure. The soreness is usually accompanied by bruising and swelling. Discomfort and other liposuction side effects are temporary and tend to resolve in the first two to three weeks of recovery.
To help make your recovery as quick and comfortable as possible, your plastic surgeon at Simply Liposuction may provide a prescription for oral medication that should be taken as directed. Do not attempt to take over-the-counter medicines without consulting your plastic surgeon first. Following your surgery, your plastic surgeon will place a compression garment on the treated area, which helps reduce swelling and water retention. To further help minimize discomfort and swelling, we recommend using ice packs.
