The holidays are once again upon us. During this time of year, there are
countless festive parties to
attend, as well as countless opportunities to snack on seasonal treats
that tend to add inches to the waistline. If you have undergone
liposuction surgery and are concerned about ruining your body contouring results this holiday
season, don’t worry! Here, Dr. David Sayah shares three holiday
treats that won’t spoil your liposuction results (when enjoyed in
moderation).
Dark Chocolate
With so many cookies, candies and cakes to choose from this holiday season, you might be craving a sweet indulgence. If you need a sweet treat but don’t want to ruin your liposuction results, reach for dark chocolate. Dark chocolate with at least 75-percent cacao has a hint of sweetness and a depth of richness that will satisfy your sweet tooth. Plus, dark chocolate has antioxidant properties to combat the free radicals present in our bodies, as well as cardiovascular health benefits. Just be sure to limit yourself to one or two squares of this treat to avoid unwanted weight gain.
Baked Cinnamon Apples
If you are craving a treat that reminds you of the holidays, baked apples with cinnamon are it. Just core an apple (leaving the bottom intact) and add your favorite fillings into the empty hole. You can make these treats as healthy or as sumptuous as you would like, depending on what you put in them. For a healthier option, simply add ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, ¼ teaspoon of fresh grated ginger and a touch of maple syrup. (We like grade-b maple syrup for its high viscosity and complex flavor.) Pop them into an oven that’s been preheated to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and bake for about 45 minutes. The smell alone will remind you of Christmas.
Air-Popped Popcorn
Instead of mindlessly snacking on a multi-gallon tin of caramel-covered, chocolate-covered and cheesy movie theater-like popcorn that packs hundreds of calories in each serving size, try the healthier version: air-popped popcorn. Unlike movie theater varieties, air-popped popcorn is low in saturated fat, has no cholesterol and is a good source of fiber, which helps keep you feeling full and regulates digestion. You can add a sprinkle of truffle salt, some smoked paprika and parsley or even a dash of cumin to provide extra flavor without adding extra calories.
Bonus!
Adding spices, such as cinnamon, to tea, or aromatic herbs, such as mint, to sparkling water is a great way to make your drink seem more festive without consuming highly caloric beverages.
