Four Things To Expect From Arm Liposuction

Posted By David Sayah, MD

Are you frustrated by excess fat on the arms that doesn’t seem to budge no matter how much you diet and exercise? If so, you are not alone. At Simply Liposuction, our plastic surgeons meet with many men and women who seek sculpted, toned arms. In this blog post, we share four things all potential patients can expect from the procedure.

YOU CHOOSE A TECHNIQUE

There are various liposuction techniques available, each with its own sets of benefits. In tumescent liposuction, the plastic surgeon numbs the treatment area on the arm with a local anesthetic and inserts a tube to suction out the fat. Laser liposuction involves eliminating fat cells with laser technology. Ultrasonic liposuction uses ultrasonic waves to target fat cells, leaving blood vessels unharmed. Each treatment involves making tiny incisions on the arm to eliminate fat deposits. Prior to your procedure, you will meet with your plastic surgeon to discuss all of your available treatment options.

YOU WILL NEED TO REST FOR TWO WEEKS

After the procedure, you will need to take one to two weeks off from work to allow your arms to properly heal. Strenuous exercise and activity, including raising your arms above shoulder length, will also be off limits. You will experience minor discomfort, bruising and swelling for the first days after surgery. Be sure to follow all of your plastic surgeon’s instructions and take medication prescribed to you as directed.

THERE WILL BE SCARRING

All plastic surgery procedures that require incisions leave some degree of scarring. However, our plastic surgeons are skilled in minimizing and hiding these scars. Proper skin care following your surgery can also help reduce the appearance of your scars. Overexposure to the sun, especially during the first six weeks after surgery, harms the skin and may cause the scar to remain permanently discolored.

TONED, SCULPTED ARMS

Of course, the best part about the procedure is firmer, toned arms! Once you have fully recovered from surgery, you will be able to show off your sculpted arms more confidently to the world. Many of our patients experience a boost in self-esteem as they are no longer embarrassed about wearing short sleeve or sleeveless shirts. They are more motivated to stay healthy and exercise regularly in order to maintain their toned arms.
