How To Lose Weight And Keep It Off

There is no shortage of tips and diets that promise weight loss, but just how many of them actually work? In this blog post, we share some of the most effective ways to lose weight and keep the weight off.

THINK LONG TERM NOT SHORT TERM

Many diets can help jump start your weight loss, but forcing yourself to lose weight in a short amount of time can do more harm than good. Many extreme diets have a “yo-yo” effect, meaning you will likely lose weight but then regain it as your body tries to cope with the lack of calories and nutrients. What’s more, weight fluctuations can loosen the skin tissue, causing your skin to look saggy and aged. For better results, think about weight loss as a permanent lifestyle change. Make healthy lifestyle changes such as replacing high-calorie foods with healthier, lower-calorie alternatives, reducing your portion sizes, and becoming more active.

SURROUND YOURSELF WITH SUPPORTIVE PEOPLE

Confide in family or friends you trust about your decision to lose weight. Once your loved ones know your goals, they can be a great source of support. Some may even be motivated to lose weight as well! If this is the case, you can work together to practice healthy eating and exercise habits. GET SIX TO EIGHT HOURS OF SLEEP

Studies show people who sleep less than six hours a night gain more weight over time and have a harder time losing weight. Getting an adequate amount of sleep at night helps you burn more calories, boost fat loss and decrease your chances of late-night snacking.

FIND A PHYSICAL ACTIVITY YOU LIKE

Many people are discouraged to exercise because they see it as work or a chore. Some may stick with a workout plan consistently only for a couple of days or weeks, while others may avoid exercise altogether. The truth is, regular exercise is imperative for weight loss. In order to make sure you stick to exercise, choose a physical activity you actually enjoy. If running on a treadmill inside a gym doesn’t motivate you, try running outside or hiking while enjoying the great outdoors. Yoga is a low-impact activity that can strengthen your muscles and relax your mind at the same time. There are also plenty of group exercise classes that incorporate fun, lively music and encourage you to meet other like-minded individuals.

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS

Keep a food journal to track your eating habits and weight. Keeping track of your weight loss efforts can make your goals seem more feasible and help you stay motivated. If you’re constantly on the go, try a smartphone app that you can conveniently use at any time. Smartphone apps are a great way for you to store all of your eating habits, calorie intake and exercise efforts in one place.
