What The Heck Is "Tickle" Liposuction?

Posted By David Sayah, MD

Tickle Lipo is a newly patented liposuction method that’s gaining a lot of attention and popularity. Developed in Europe, it’s the most recently FDA-approved lipo technique. Does it really live up to the superior results in fat removal and body sculpting that it claims?

What’s the Difference?

During Tickle Lipo, the specialized cannula utilizes patented oscillating movements and vibrations to break up fat, without the use of heat or lasers, for subsequent removal. The procedure got its nickname because the vibrations from the cannula create what patients have described as a tickling sensation.

Unlike most liposuction techniques, Tickle Lipo is performed under local anesthesia, allowing the patient to stay awake during the procedure. The absence of general anesthesia results in a shorter procedure, typically lasting 1-2 hours; this can mean a lower overall liposuction cost as well. This technique also claims to require less physical effort by the surgeon due to the specialized cannula’s exceptional fat emulsifying capabilities. Proponents tout many additional benefits too, including reduced swelling, less bruising and faster recovery time.

Is It Right for You?

Just like with any other cosmetic procedure, it is imperative that a patient does his or her research and finds a highly qualified board certified plastic surgeon before having liposuction. Liposuction is a complex procedure that truly sculpts the body and really takes a certain level of artistry. It’s important to remember that, despite the method or equipment used, there is a direct correlation between the skill and experience of the surgeon and the results the patient will receive. Always focus on finding a great surgeon first rather than the latest gadgetry.
